The job of the Libertarian Party Bylaws Committee is to propose amendments to the Bylaws and Convention Special Rules of Order for consideration by the delegates to the national convention to be held in St Louis 29-31 May 2010. August of the election year is far too late. Move it up to NLT April or even sooner.
Also, this change impacts the formation of regions and their regional representatives (every two years), and extends the terms of office of the Officers and LNC at-large reps from two to four years, which is unacceptable when the membership feels the leadership needs replacing (like it does now?). Outside of the convention, there is currently no way to do that.
I understand the concern, but I also believe that it is important to gather every two years. A suggestion, if I may: instead of mid term national conventions, why not have mid-term REGIONAL conventions instead? Western, Central and Eastern. That would help cut on costs and travel time, allow Libertarians to gather, and perhaps encourage more participation from people who previously could not afford to travel across the country.
